Islamabad Festivals and Events

The name Islamabad is ideally referred to as the “City of Islam”. Over the years, Islamabad Festivals and Events have gained significance with many foreign visitors visiting the city during the festive seasons. With huge number of festivities lined up all through the year, there are many Things to Do in Islamabad. These festivals and events in Islamabad primarily showcase the different regional as well as the cultural aspects of the city. During the festive seasons, the city of Islamabad wears a festive look with wide decorations adorning the major streets and prominent buildings of the city. Islamabad Festivals and Events are aimed at promoting the rich folk heritage of the region well represented through different forms of folk dance, drama and traditional songs.

Some of the major festivals and events in Islamabad include-- Jashan-e-Baharan, Sibi Mela, Channan Pir Festival, Broghil Festival & Yak Polo, Independence Day Celebrations and Karakorum International Film Festival. These festivals and events in Islamabad are witnessed by a large gathering with thousands of spectactors from different parts of the country coming to witness this grand event.



However, Islamabad Festivals and Events remain incomplete without mentioning the religious festivities of Shab-e-Barat, Eid-ul-Fitr, Sibi Festival, Jashan-e-Larkana, Nauroze and Eid-ul-Azha. It’s important to note that Pakistan Day in Islamabad is widely celebrated with huge funfair and celebrations at every nook and corner of the city. All the prominent roads and streets are widely decorated with lights and the offices of national interest is illuminated with bright lights lined up across the area. On this day the schools and government offices remain closed. Among the other events in Islamabad which occupies a formidable place is the spring festival which is popularly known as ‘Basant Festival’.
This festival is celebrated during the spring with great pomp and revelry. The traditional fairs which are organized from time to time also are famous among the residents of Islamabad and deserve a special mention as they widely focus on the conventional forms of art and craft which has widely gained popularity in the recent years. Festivals and cultural events in Islamabad are organized during the festive occasions of Eid and New Year with numerous competitions and contests held on this ceremonial occasion. Islamabad Festivals and Events remain incomplete without colorful rallies and parades which are widely organized during the religious carnivals usually participated by large gathering mainly comprising of enthusiastic children and young boys and girls from schools and colleges of the city. Also exhibitions highlighting the different handicrafts of the rural areas are usually witnessed by a huge footfall.
