Taxila in Islamabad

Taxila in Islamabad is known for its great archaeological sites which date back to the 5th century B.C. Having been the center of Gandhara architecture and sculpture, education and religion in the days of Buddhist glory, Taxila is also one of the leading Islamabad tourist attractions. The place is located approximately 35 kilometers north of Islamabad, in the Punjab province. Taxila in Islamabad is home to the best Buddhist heritage and Gandhara sculpture. One of the most interesting sites in Taxila is the statue of Lord Buddha where you will see the face of Buddha radiating an extreme sense of peace with eyes that are wide open.

In addition to being a popular tourist attraction, Taxila also attracts several pilgrims from countries like China and Greece. A visit to Taxila in Islamabad is a truly enriching experience for any traveler. From exploring the richness and variety of the famous Gandhara sculpture to the well preserved cities and stupas. There are three cities in Taxila which are major tourist attractions and are called Bhir Mound, Sirkap and the city of Sirsukh. Bhir Mound is the oldest of the three cities in Taxila and Sirsukh is the most modern.
