Airport
The Chaklala International Airport or the Islamabad International Airport is actually located in Rawalpindi than Islamabad and it serves the city along with the capital. Highways
Rawalpindi is on the ancient Grand Trunk Road also recognized as the G.T. Road or, more recently, N-5 or National Highway – 5.
This highway links Rawalpindi to nearly all major city in northern Pakistan, from Lahore in the Punjab to Peshawar in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP). Besides the city is also served by two nearby six-lane Motorways, M1 (Islamabad-Peshawar) and M2 (Lahore-Islamabad), which were finished in the 1990’s. A little further away is the well-known Karakoram Highway, the world’s highest international road, which connects Pakistan to China.

Public transportation
Public transport for getting in and round Rawalpindi is diverse, ranging from the yellow Taxis, Auto-Rickshaws, Mini-Buses and even Tongas, i.e., horse-drawn carriages. Due to lack of proper planning of roads, Transportation in Rawalpindi is a mess. Traffic is found even on small roads and lanes. For inter-city travel, air-conditioned and non air-conditioned Buses and Coaches are regularly on hand to many destinations in Pakistan.
There is also an Islamabad/Rawalpindi Central Railway Station that permits travelers to visit every major city in Pakistan.
